OSX Hackintosh – You Need to restart your computer
I installed 10.5.5 on my hackintosh, but it crashed, and I had to hold the power key down to shutdown and then restart.
On restart I got the message “You Need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the Restart button”.
When you do this you get the same message all over. If you look at the top of the screen in the boot messages you’ll see “Unsupported CPU \n” and “AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement”.
Whats happened is that the updater has installed the kernel extension (kext) AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext so you need to remove it.
To do this boot from the DVD.
On my MSI Wind / Advent 4211:
– hold down F11 on boot
– select ‘boot from DVD’
after the usual whirring away you’ll get the start of the installation.
– select you language. I selected English
– click ‘continue’ at the welcome message
– click Agree when asked
At the ‘select destination screen’ go to the Utilities menu and select Terminal.
When the terminal window opens type:
cd /Volumes/HardDisk/System/Library/Extensions
rm -rf AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext
Quit from terminal
Quit from the installer and click restart.
Sanga, I am experiencing this same problem and you’re guide seems to be my fix; however, when I put in the code you have provided it say directory not found. Can you help me? Thanks
Hi Ian, on your hackintosh the file may be in a directory with a different label. I label my hdd “HardDisk” with a capital H and D since Linux is case sensiteive I recommend tracking the file down step by step.
cd /Volumes
ls
This will show the names of all the volumes, you can then do
cd /Volumes/
And so on until you get to the directory with the file to delete. Hope this helps 🙂
I solved this issue—-
Just start up your system in safe mode, by following commands,
-x -v GraphicsEnabler=Yes
it will take you inside , after that you restart your system, now you can able to find ignoring of that message….:-)
For me this just acted as if I did -v
It did no safe mode
I tried again but still no luck. I apologize because I am a complete noob to this. I named my drive Tamed Lion and there is a space between the two. In terminal can I but a space and it will know. I know sometimes a % detonates a space.
Hi Ian.
You can reference a path by using the “\” modifier
From the command line try
cd /Volumes/Tamed Then press the tab key and os x will fill in the rest
Alternatively
cd /Volumes/Tamed\ Lion/…..
Let me know if you get stuck 🙂

Okay I got all the way into the directory Library and check it. The only things I have in there are APP SUPPORT, KEYCHAINS, SCRIPTS, COLORSYNC, LOGS, SECURITY, DOCUMENTATION, MANAGED PREFERENCES, STARTUPITEMS, GRAPHICS, PREFERENCES, KEYBOARD LAYOUTS, RECEIPTS
Any suggestions on where to go after this? Thanks again.
Sounds like your problem may be bigger than just the power management kexts. Ill start at the begining:
what is the exact error message you see when you get the screen of death?
How did you install the hackinstosh (tonymacx86, hackintoshDVD etc, etc,) and did it work before and suddenly stop working?
If you have details about your system hardware please post. Since i created this hackintosh more than 3 years ago, alot has changed and there may be other better ways to solve the issue with newer tools. (i now use tonymacx86 method on dell 755 thats flwaless
Its after 10pm on saturday so i may not be able to respond until tomorrow, but i would like to help with your issue and if we find a solution make it a part of the blog (with your name in the credits) so dont give up 🙂
Mate I’m getting the exact same problem… Install goes fine, no problem at all. I can use my Hackintosh for about 30 minutes and then it cuts out.. though if I am torrenting it seems to happen a lot faster…
CPU: i7-2600
GPU: Nvidia GT 530 1GB
HDD: 1TB Caviar Green
RAM: 12GB DDR3 1333
MOBO: ASUS P8H67-M
I don’t understand. It installs easily without a hitch. I’m using Lion 10.7.4. But the PC just seems to crash sometimes, and sometimes the audio doesn’t load up at boot either… ugh. Can you provide any help? I followed your guide but it hasn’t helped anything.
hey @leijonasisu, see if you can trace this problem to any particular activity, say launching a particular app.
refer my blog – http://crackmyos.wordpress.com/2013/09/21/iatkos-freezes-your-computer-need-to-be-restart/
after entering “cd /Volumes ” i cant find any of the volumes still the error mentioning directory not found
what folders do you see when you go into the /Volumes folder?
Well I to had the same message on my mac and it seems only mac users are having this problem. I figured out what was causing it. First, do you bank online? If so most banks now are using a “Security Rapport” that you can download. This download caused my problem and was the reason the message came up and froze my computer. I recommend not downloading that extra security program. Check on line to see if you have the option to download it when you log into your banking services. I removed it and my mac has been fine ever since.
for some installations i will be
cd /Volumes/”HardDisk”/System/Library/Extensions
where “HardDisk” is the name of your hard drive
Thx for the pointer!
Hi, I named my hard drive “Hackintosh”. I be been trying and it always says it doesn’t found it how is this done..
I need more details as to what step you are unable to complete. Naming the harddrive hackintosh should not change the process
Do I have to do it from the retail dvd, as if i was going to install it again ?
I did it from the iboot and it said permission denied. Then I did it from the installing (retail) disc… -bash-3.2# cd /Volumes/Hackintosh/System/Library/Extensions “Enter”
-bash-3.2# rm -rf AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext “Enter” but nothing as confirmation appears. I quit terminal and installation but it continues asking to reboot.
-bash-3.2# cd /Volumes/Hackintosh/System/Library/Extensions “Enter”
-bash-3.2# rm -rf AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext “Enter”
It doesnt appear this text in mine “Unsupported CPU \n” and “AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement”.
looks like you are trying to solve multiple issues at the same time and not getting to the core reason for it not working. Question 1, did you ever get your hackintosh to boot up to the desktop? If not then this may not be the solution. Also if you do not see the text “Unsupport CPU \n” then this solution is not for the problem you are having.
What exactly is the problem, and how far have you gone in solving it? We can then move forward from there.
I installed it normally, after installing the multi-beast in order to boot the PC from the hard drive I boot it, but then the multi-language messaged appear, and in order to access the PC I have to boot from the iboot.
Ok this solution was for the original hackintosh before multibeast and unibeast were even an option. I believe I was using osX 10.4 or 10.5 I recommend using the forums on http://www.tonymacx86.com/forum.php to get more relevant answers.
